… “The artist who created the “Presepial Installation in Honor of Peace,” Yvonne DiPalma , decided to give a spirit to her sculptural characters, in addition to a face and body. She has succeeded in so doing, taking the utmost care in the tiniest details, but more importantly, sculpting into the terracotta quite life-like human expressions and characteristics. Thus the feeling of vivid human warmth which arises from the whole stems directly from that artistic ability utilized in rendering each individual character. Each year Yvonne DiPalma has added new characters and has placed them in various sections; the larger ones are put in the foreground and the smaller ones take their position on the sides of the stage or in the background, accentuating the perspective and depth of the whole scenery. DiPalma has not only been inspired by portraits of well-known people, but has also added friends, relatives, and acquaintances. There is , for example, ”Salvatore”, who in real life sells mechanical toys near the market of San Lorenzo and his portrait sculpture has been placed right in the area of the “market” of the scene….Therefore the whole set-up unites modern references to the traditional ones; on a small scale, in fact, there are angles and elements of architecture from our city and people from this century inserted in the context of the great event represented… from “ A Presepe for Peace with Bush and Gorbaciov” from “LA GAZZETTA” of Florence, January 11, 1991, by ANGELA TUMMINELLI.
